This describes my recent experience with Desire Cruise, and here’s what separates Desire from your average “vanilla” cruise. On Desire cruise, attendees are allowed to sunbathe, swim, and connect in the ship’s exclusive clothing-optional pool deck. Attendees can also connect on a more intimate level in the clothing-optional playroom, where they can experience every moment with freedom and uninhibited pleasure. And the fun doesn’t stop there. Throughout the day, couples can attend professional workshops to learn about specific ways to spice up their relationships. Some of topics of the most recent cruise’s classes were “How to Discover Your Sexual Fantasies”, “Guided Anal Massage”, “Guided Group Play”, “Fifty Shades of Kink.”
And, every night of the cruise, there’s a party with a unique theme with a spicy twist. Sometimes the theme is something sexy and creative, like a kinky twist on Disney princes and princesses. First and foremost, Desire is an erotic-themed, lifestyle-friendly cruise. The “lifestyle” community (also known as the “swinger” community) refers to committed couples who explore sexual connections with other partners beyond their existing relationship. There’s a decent-sized number of couples on the cruise who are non-monogamous. However, it’s important to note that while a lot of couples are interested in exploring non-monogamous experiences on the cruise, there are also a lot of couples who aren’t. Many couples prefer to remain sexually and romantically exclusive to each other, but enjoy being in an open-minded environment, and that’s okay!
What I Enjoyed Most About the Cruise
This is my second time embarking on Desire Cruise with Jason Steel, Berlin-based porn star, (who many of you may already recognize from his educational collaboration with JOYClub). We loved that both times, the sexual energy was easily felt in the air from the moment everyone arrived on the ship. A handful of people were immediately naked and partying at the pool while others greeted the lovers they remembered and kept in touch with from the previous cruise.
Shortly after checking into our room, Jason and I unpacked and used the mounted coat rack on the wall to hang our paddles, riding crops, whips, shibari rope, and other kinky toys. My main agenda for this cruise, aside from teaching professional classes as one of Desire’s official sexperts, was to experiment with Dominant/submissive dynamics in the bedroom. I’ve always identified as a submissive and wanted to explore the kinky side of myself, but I never had much experience.
Luckily for me, it didn’t take long until I finally got the kinky experience I’ve been wanting for years: getting my arms tied up with rope and fucked from behind while being partially restrained like the obedient submissive that I am. The next day, another sexual fantasy of mine came true. I finally had sex on a balcony overlooking the ocean — or at least, I started to until looking at the strong waves almost made me feel sea sick. But for others? They just want to have a fun time, and their idea of a fun time doesn’t automatically mean sex. Sometimes, couples were only in the mood for a three-way cuddle. Other times, couples confessed that they were mostly looking for long-term friendships with other couples. In private settings and a broader group dynamic, I encourage first-timers to be open to new experiences, but clear about what their boundaries are too. The cruise has an equal mixture of beginners and seasoned attendees, so regardless of what your comfort level is, you’ll likely find other people who feel the same way you do.
My Biggest Takeaway from the Cruise
Going on a Desire cruise continuously shows me how important it is to be part of an international community of sex-positive people. It’s not every day that we’re in a unique environment that encourages us to explore the most intimate parts of ourselves and others, so it’s important to keep an open mind and make the best of the experience. The people I’ve met through Desire have quickly become like my family, and that’s priceless.
