Fisting - the workshop for beginners

Tips and tricks for your first time fisting

Fisting is a pleasurable sexual variety in which several fingers, the whole hand or several hands are inserted into the vagina or anus. It takes a lot of practice, patience and empathy to avoid seriously hurting the partner or taking away the pleasure of experimenting.

If you are careful and cautious when fisting, injuries can be mostly prevented. To do this, it is important to follow a few rules. In our fisting tutorial, we give beginners tips and tricks to make your first fisting experience a sensual and exciting success.

Practice makes perfect!

Fisting demands a lot of practice, patience and empathy so as not to hurt the receiving partner or deprive them of their desire to experiment. If you proceed gently and carefully during fisting, you will mostly avoid injuries. Here are a few rules you should stick to.

In order to inform you comprehensively, we have relied on the experience and knowledge of fisting experts from the JOYclub Community. The following explanations are applicable to vaginal fisting as well as anal fisting.

Please note: If pain occurs at any moment, stop the attempt and take your time until you try again! In any case, the golden rule applies: Your partner‘s limits are your most important guideline!

The Fisting Workshop: Fisting explained step by step

To be able to inform yourselves comprehensively, we have relied on the experience and knowledge of fisting experts from the JOYclub community. The following explanations are applicable to both vaginal fisting and anal fisting.

The preparation: this is what you need

  • A relaxed, calm and sensual atmosphere
  • Lubrication (silicone-based)
  • Latex gloves (optionally, reduce risk of injury and infection)
  • Bath towel (as a base)
  • For anal fisting: empty the bowels beforehand and rinse lightly (enema)
  • Short fingernails (reduce risk of injury)
  • A lot of desire for each other (an absolute necessity)

What should also be clear to everyone, but still cannot be mentioned enough: Always pay attention to hygiene! Hands must be washed thoroughly before and after fisting. Latex gloves can also be used to protect against infections. In this case, make sure that the chosen lubricant is also compatible with latex!

And now, here's what to do:

#1: Create a relaxing atmosphere

Music, candlelight and the like can help you relax. Choose a moment of peace and quiet when there are no commitments. Mental and physical relaxation is indispensable for fisting.

#2: Watch your partner's reactions

The receiving partner determines when it’s time for the next step by showing you that they are ready for more. When is the right moment? For the mathematicians among us: at 80% arousal, right before the point of I-just-can’t-wait-no-longer. What’s crucial is the receiving partner’s readiness: Never push for it if they aren’t ready. For your first time, we recommend a position on the back as this allows you to relax all your muscles and to focus on the active partner.

#3: Slow warm-up for the vagina or anus using one to several fingers

The active partner often uses one up to four fingers first to slowly warm up and stretch. Use lots of lube (seriously, you can never use too much lube!) during both vaginal and anal play. You will immediately notice the advantages for both partners. Generously spread the lube on your hand and your partner‘s vagina or anus. Take your time during warm-up and all of the following steps. Always communicate about how slowly or fast you want to take it further.

#4: Carefully insert your whole hand

The most difficult part of fisting is inserting your whole hand, particularly the spot where your finger knuckles hit the back of your hand. The best hand position to achieve this is the beak-like "silent duck": All five fingers are kept straight and held as closely together as possible. This helps you achieve the smallest possible diameter.

  • Vaginal, passive partner lying on her back: Move your hand slightly downwards towards her anus, not in the direction of her clitoris.
  • Anal, passive partner lying on their back: The passive partner can try to gently push against the hand (like during a bowel movement). The pushing automatically helps the muscle stretch and often eases inserting the last bit of the hand.

Important: Don’t push for it, the hand will almost automatically glide in when the time is ripe. Often, there is a little "jolt"...et voilà. Use copious amounts of lube. After successful insertion, keep your hand very still at first so that the passive partner can get used to this new feeling. If it becomes too much, slowly remove your hand and start over.

#5: Slightly move your hand back and forth

If you succeeded and feel like they’re ready for more, you can try slightly moving your hand inside the vagina or anus. You should try back-and-forth-movements first before considering more advanced techniques like twisting motions. These are for experienced fisters only.

Injuries from fisting

Fisting requires caution and consideration.
Fisting requires caution and consideration.

Our private parts contain tiny blood vessels that can easily be injured. Intense fisting, a lack of lubricant or readiness can lead to tearing and bleeding. But there are big differences in severity.

Small injuries like minor scratches caused by finger nails will usually heal fast. A slight burning or pulling sensation are other possible signs of microtrauma to the skin, even if there is no bleeding. Those kinds of minor injuries are not serious and nothing to worry about.

However, if strong bleeding occurs, particularly if the blood isn’t bright red but dark red, you should consult a doctor immediately!
