Introduction to Shibari UK group

What is Shibari?
An ancient technique for binding people originating from Japan. It has its roots in martial arts particularly the way in which prisoners of war were restrained when captured. From there Shibari evolved into the erotic binding of ‘Kinbaku’.

Why do people enjoy Shibari?
Shibari play can mean different things for different people - it’s difficult to pinpoint one specific thing, some people enjoy the play and there are others more drawn to the aesthetics. At its core, it connects people and it is also very sensual!

Where to start if you want to learn to tie?
A good place to start is the double column tie, it's a simple way to bind two limbs together, and just take it from there! Learning materials and tutorials you can find in the section ONLINE RESOURCES

Are there any classes to attend in real life?
There are several dedicated Shibari studios in London (where I studied too!) A list of studios with reviews are to be found in SHIBARI LIFE CLASSES

Where to start if you want to tie/be tied but you don't have a partner?
In the section FIND A ROPE PARTNER one can look for a rope bunny/rigger

What pieces of equipment are essential?
A good set of ropes is essential (about 6-8 lengths). Use Hemp and Jute for suspension and cotton for sensual play (nice and soft!). More information about what ropes are best for you you can find in the section BONDAGE ROPES

Any other tips or guidance you’d like to give?
Remember to communicate with each other. And relax it's a bonding experience and its fun! I hope this group will make the approch to Shibari easier!
